Motor insurance FAQ

  • How do I cancel my car/taxi/van policy?

Under normal circumstances, you would need to inform AXA in writing if you wish to cancel your policy, and return your certificate of insurance. However, at this time, you can inform AXA of your intentions by phone or email and return your certificate at a later date. AXA will work out the percentage of premium for the period you have been insured and refund any balance.

  • Can I suspend my motor policy, as I am not using my car at the moment?

Yes, you can suspend your insurance while your car is not in use. Please contact us on 1890 24 7 365 if you wish to suspend your policy.

  • I have a DriveSave policy, but I can’t drive. What should I do?

We recognise that our Drivesave customers may not be in a position to comply with the trip requirements as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In recognition of this we are suspending your 90 trips in 90 days requirement. For the duration of the suspension you will not receive any emails from AXA regarding this requirement.

  • I want to volunteer to deliver to vulnerable people in my community. Am I covered?

We’ll automatically provide cover on your car policy if you volunteer to deliver food, medicine or other essential items to people in your local community.

  • I’m a healthcare worker and I need my car for visiting people in the community, do I need business use?

If you’re a health worker and due to Covid-19 you need business use, we’ll upgrade your cover to include business use and waive any additional cost.

  • The NCT centre is closed and my cert has expired, can I still drive?

Don’t worry if your NCT cert expires. If your car is in a roadworthy condition we’ve got you covered. Just be sure to book your appointment when the test centre reopens.

  • The NDLS has closed and I need to renew my licence. What should I do?

If you had a valid licence before Covid-19 your insurance won’t be affected. Just be sure to renew it once the NDLS reopens. See the latest FAQs regarding the NDLS closures.

  • I’ve got a Studentfirst policy, will I still get my rebate?

If you pay monthly and remain claims-free, we’ll continue to adjust your monthly instalments every 3 months, giving you a 1.25% rebate – even if your policy has been suspended.

  • Can I temporarily add another driver to my policy?

You can add a driver to your policy for up to 28 days free of charge – as long as the temporary driver is aged between 30-69 with a full licence.

Just give us a call on 1890 24 7 365 and one of the team will be happy to help.
