Why are not all claims paid?

AXA Home Claims - Wear & Tear
  • Wear & Tear

If something is broken or damaged due to normal use or aging, then this is not insured. Examples include cracked tiling, decaying pipework, broken appliances and soft furnishing fabrics worn by everyday use.

  • Your policy excess is more than the claim itself

To keep our premiums as low as possible, we have standard policy excess’ as follows:

    • Escape of water €500
    • Subsidence €5000
    • All other claims €250

Please note: you may have asked for a voluntary excess over and above these in return for a premium discount. If you have a home no-claims discount, this will be reduced and the increased premium may offset the value of any small claims paid under your policy.

AXA Home Claims - Personal Possessions
  • Personal possessions away from your home

Under your contents cover, your personal possessions are covered within your home or in transit if you're moving house. But if you want day to day cover for personal possessions outside the home you must add this extension to your policy and pay the extra premium.

  • Un-occupancy

There are terms and conditions that apply if your property is unoccupied or unfurnished for more than 40 consecutive days. Please make sure you are familiar with these conditions. If you fail to comply with these conditions, your claim may not be paid.

  • Mineral felt flat roofs

Please be aware that mineral felt flat roofs are very prone to weather damage. Roofs over 5 years old must be inspected and maintained by a professional builder every 3 years. You must be able to prove this in the event of a claim.
